Air Filter Size v. Actual Air Filter Dimensions
Industry standards dictate that air conditioner filters be a fraction smaller than the size printed on the box, or the nominal size. You should measure the exact size of your furnace filter and compare it to the “Actual Air Filter Dimensions” listed above before placing your order.
MERV Ratings: What You Need To Know
MERV Ratings, or the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, are an industry standard rating the effectiveness of air filters and purifiers in Central HVAC systems. Such systems typically use MERV air filters because they are less dense than HEPA filters, allowing for quicker circulation and lower operating costs. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) specifies MERV Ratings on a scale from 1-20 – Nordic Pure 10x20x2 furnace filters are available in several different MERV ratings. We manufacture MERVs 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 and offer the option of adding carbon media to each of the MERVs. Our electrostatic MERV Plus Carbon air conditioning filter has a MERV media plus an added layer of polyester based media impregnated with activated carbon.
MERV Ratings: Which Is Right For Me?
The universal standard for AC furnace filters is a MERV Rating, but some competitors use proprietary MPR or FPR standards for rating the effectiveness of air filters. If you are new to MERV, click on What is MERV above to decide which Rating you need for your 10x20x2 AC filters. If you are experiencing dirty air or excessive dust, try stepping up to the next level MERV Rating, but remember – the more efficient an air filter is, the more it tends to resist air flow. For most residential environments, a MERV 12 is recommended but please review specific guidelines provided in your AC furnace unit instruction manual.
Maintaining Your Air Filter – Check, Change & Reorder
For the typical industrial, commercial or residential application, we recommend replacing your 10x20x2 air filters every 30, 60 or 90 days. Please keep in mind, however, that environmental conditions vary and more frequent maintenance may be required to achieve optimal results.
